Why am I feeling this way?

Why the World Feels Like It’s Not Making Sense Anymore

If you’re reading this, chances are something feels ‘off’ in your life. The world you once understood no longer makes sense, and something deep inside you knows it. You feel a growing disconnect between what you value and what you see happening around you.

Maybe you’ve noticed:

  1. You feel like you no longer fit in – whether in a job, a relationship, or society.

  2. You disagree with the direction society is heading – as if it no longer makes sense.

  3. You just want to detach from the chaos and live life your way.

If this sounds familiar… You’re not alone. In this article, I’ll explain why you are feeling this now, and why this is an invitation for you to become who you are meant to be.

My Turning Point

In 2021, I was at a crossroads. I had served twelve years in policing after three in the military. I was teaching in the tactics unit, living what had once been my dream job – but I felt disconnected. For some reason, I just couldn’t shake the sense that I was no longer in the right place.

I was seeing contradictions everywhere. Many times, violent offenders would be arrested, only to be released within hours. Those struggling with addiction or mental illness had nowhere to go, stuck in an endless cycle of crises and hardship. The system was overwhelmed, and our work often added strain rather than relief as we could only address symptoms.

I could see that it wasn’t just the people who were broken… It was the institution. In general, people wanted to do better, but meaningful change seemed impossible - it was only allowed when it fit inside the box.

At first, I couldn’t explain the unease. I just felt conflicted, unfulfilled, and exhausted. Over time, I realized it wasn’t policing that had changed, it was me. My values no longer fit the box society was trying to keep me in. I could no longer continue participating in the system that was forcing me to act against my values.

Eventually, I left to pursue a career as an entrepreneur, which brought its own share of challenges. But I gained the freedom to finally start living life my way instead of hiding who I really was to fit into a pre-defined role.

Looking back, I see that misalignment for what it was: an invitation to grow. Leaving policing was my first step toward living authentically. However, I now know that my move was to prepare me for what came next: a desperate battle for survival after my wife was terminally diagnosed with cancer. That part of the story will come later, but it set the stage for a brutal journey of transformation and self-discovery to learn who I was and why I am here.

Why So Many Feel the Same

You might feel this too, in your own ways. You look at the world and see contradictions everywhere. Systems that once seemed fair and righteous now just feel strained and unsustainable. You’ve worked so hard to make a difference, yet it feels like you are on a never-ending quest of pushing a rock up a hill… But the rock keeps getting heavier, and the hill keeps getting steeper.

It’s disheartening because you want to make a difference. You want to lead positive change in your community, but you feel suppressed.

That tension you feel doesn’t mean something is wrong with you… Instead, you are seeing a symptom of a collective transition. Institutions that once held society together are being pushed to the breaking point, and the old patterns no longer serve.

If you want an example, look at politics across the Western world. No matter who’s in power, inequality grows, polarization deepens, and trust erodes. Although some parties may be more beneficial than others, the polarization has only deepened, transforming politics into battlegrounds rather than meeting places. It’s clear the current path isn’t sustainable.

And yes, it hurts. It’s stressful to watch what you’ve devoted your life to supporting start coming apart.

The Deeper Purpose Behind the Chaos

  • What if the turmoil we are seeing is the catalyst to trigger broader change?

  • What if this is by design, and it’s to inspire people like us to break free from the institutions that were built around power and control?

  • What if the inner tension and struggle you feel is actually guidance… An internal signal urging you to awaken and look within?

I would argue that the world’s upheaval is not random. The rise of AI, economic and financial instability, political division, global conflict, and environmental crises… Everything is reaching a boiling point now of all times, pushing us toward deeper awareness. It’s an invitation for each of us to become agents of conscious change.

This disturbance you feel is your intuition saying, pay attention. Look deeper. Instead of looking outward for someone to fix it, look inward to see how you can live and lead differently. Your time is coming.

  • What if your role isn’t to try and fix a broken and collapsing system, but help build what comes next?

  • What if your life was preparing you for this moment, and the turmoil you are feeling is your intuition telling you that it’s time to discover who you really are and what your true purpose really is?

So, to answer the question: Why do I feel this way?

It’s because your worldview is shifting, and your intuition is guiding you to a new model for how the world should be. You carry the blueprint, and your life experience has provided you with the resources. Now, it’s about positioning yourself where you are meant to be.

If this resonates, but you don’t know where to start, that’s okay.

I've spent my whole life trying to figure this out for myself, with the goal of helping others who might find themselves in a similar position. Going into this, I had no idea where it would lead, but I knew my struggles would eventually become a guide, and that’s exactly what I want to share.

It’s so that when you feel lost without a map, I can genuinely tell you that there is hope, there is a roadmap, and there is a path to authentic self-discovery where you can reclaim your agency, purpose, and meaning.

And to wholeheartedly say that you can do it.

You might intuitively feel there is something big on the horizon. That’s not a warning, but rather, an awakening. Your intuition is providing you with the guidance to grow and meet the future with conviction and courage.

To start, I recommend paying attention and begin noticing when you feel that turmoil:

  1. When do you feel most lost, stuck, or overwhelmed?

  2. What situation were you in, who were you talking to, or what was going on around you?

  3. What comes to mind when you reflect on those circumstances? What does your intuition say? Why do you feel this way?

As you start exploring internally, you will begin to put the puzzle pieces together. If you feel lost, stuck, and overwhelmed, the crucial first step is to recognize why, and that’s what this series is for.

Part 2 will specifically examine why you feel ‘lost’ now more than ever.
